The Beliefs That A Nursing Profession - 1687 Words

Introduction It is been a practice for nurses to use Evidence Based Research in every procedure to be performed in patients. In short, it is been the first thing to do in every procedure. This paper will discuss two beliefs that a nursing profession should be aware of. First, is â€Å"evidenced based practice† if nurses do apply all research upon providing care to residents. Secondly, is â€Å"Therapeutic Nurse and Patient relationship†, if nurses is using such evidence practice when interacting with patients. According to Institute of Medicine (as cited in Payne, 2012, p. 429), Evidence Based Practice is the combination of best research, clinical expertise and patient values in providing care to patient. In the article of Hannes, Vandersmissen, De Blaeser, Peeters, Goedhuys Aertgeerts (2007) In their paper they said a lot of problems such as lack of time and resources, lack of support or cooperation from authority to handle clinical problems. They also mentioned that lack of relevant evidence, lack of computer skills, and the challenge in applying the research in everyday practice. Furthermore, Tsai, Olade, Pravikoff et al. (as cited in Hanes et al,. 2007, p. 163) additional barriers in evidence based practice are lack of fund for nursing research and lack of reward for evidence based action. Moreover, nurses mentioned some barriers in their paper such as behavior, involuntary to do the evidence based nurse process, there this anti teamwork, and anti research culture, lack of motivation and fear of change. Thompson (as cited in Hanes et al., 2007, p. 163) also mentioned that the delay in publication can interfere the implementation of the research in practice. And a culture that thinks action is better than thinking. However, Miller, Ward, Young (2010) stated that the only problem in implementing evidence based practice in nursing is that the levels of preparation.
